How should you name a file?

A file name should say shortly what it is. A date or the job of the document can sit in the name. Words like new, final, and a random number say nothing a week later.

Deleting the original before you check the new copy is a risk. If the merged or reduced file opens and the page count is there, keeping or deleting the old one is your choice.
