Why keep a copy of a document?

Merging, reducing, or sending a document can change the original. A second copy is the file kept before that action. If the action goes wrong, you can return to that copy.

Keeping only the file you sent is not enough. A copy deleted from a message, or changed by someone else, may not remain with you. Your own copy should sit in a separate place.
